Intrecci

WORKS > Enigmi

Scampini's Intrecci are dynamic constructions in plaster or cardboard featuring intersecting lines and segments. Set against a pure white backdrop, the resulting rhythm draws together and transmutes the various elements in an artistic fusion. Deprived of fixed rules, the geometry is mysterious. These precarious apparitions are halfway between "syllabic and ideographic art … timeless phonetical white strips... in secret praise of reiteration and intermission" (Emilio Villa). The segments travel in space with no beginning or end; they may start at one point and terminate at another or vice versa, but that is inconsequential. Like slender threads woven into the fabric of existence, they draw the spectator's attention to the enigma of the dawn and dusk of life. Scampini poses himself a question that remains unanswered perhaps because the answer is provided by those who view his work: "Where to?" In other words, where can one go to find authenticity and purity?
